Product Overview

This wire descaling brush is an inside spiral brush designed to remove rust, oxide scale and loose surface contamination from steel wire, wire rope and rod. The workpiece passes through the centre of the coil, where inward-facing metal filaments provide brushing contact around its circumference.

The brush is produced by forming a metal channel strip brush into a continuous spiral. Its inner diameter, working length and number of turns can be matched to the processed material and production-line layout. For other inward- or outward-facing coil configurations using nylon or alternative filaments, see our inverted and external spiral brush.

Wire Descaling Brush Construction and Materials

The brush consists of a stainless steel or galvanized steel backing channel with metal wire filaments secured inside it. The backing supports the spiral shape while the filaments perform the surface treatment.

Available filament materials include:

  • Stainless Steel Wire: Suitable where corrosion resistance or reduced contamination from carbon steel is required.
  • Carbon Steel Wire: Provides firm mechanical contact for general rust and scale removal from ferrous materials.
  • Brass Wire: Offers a less aggressive brushing action for surfaces requiring more controlled treatment.
  • Copper-Plated Steel Wire: Combines steel-wire stiffness with a copper-plated surface.

The standard filament diameter is 0.2 mm. Other diameters can be selected according to the required brushing intensity and workpiece surface.

Descaling Performance and Applications

The inward-facing filaments maintain contact as the workpiece travels through the coil. Increasing the number of turns extends the brushing contact area, while filament material and diameter determine how aggressively the surface is treated.

Typical applications include:

  • Steel wire drawing and straightening lines
  • Wire pretreatment before coating or plating
  • Rust removal from wire rope
  • Cable and metal rod processing
  • Continuous wire cleaning and surface preparation

The brush provides mechanical descaling and can be integrated into continuous processing equipment when its dimensions and mounting arrangement are matched to the production line.

Customization and Ordering

Each wire descaling brush is manufactured according to the workpiece and production-line requirements. For production, please provide the workpiece diameter, required brush length, preferred backing and filament materials, filament diameter, coil pitch and required cleaning intensity. A sample or equipment drawing can also be used for dimensional confirmation.

The standard MOQ is 20 pieces. Typical production time is approximately seven days, depending on dimensions and quantity. Repeat configurations can be produced at up to 2,000 pieces per day.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a wire descaling brush used for?

It mechanically removes rust, oxide scale and loose surface contamination from wire, wire rope and rod before further processing.

How does an inside spiral brush clean the entire wire surface?

The workpiece passes through the centre of the coil. Inward-facing filaments surround it and provide brushing contact around its circumference.

Which filament material should I select?

Carbon steel wire is generally used for firm cleaning of ferrous materials. Stainless steel or brass may be selected when corrosion resistance, contamination control or a less aggressive brushing action is required. Testing is recommended for sensitive surfaces.

Can the inner diameter and coil density be customized?

Yes. Inner diameter, brush length, number of turns and coil pitch can be manufactured according to the workpiece and required contact area.

What is the standard filament diameter?

The standard wire diameter is 0.2 mm. Finer or thicker filaments can be supplied when a different brushing intensity is required.

What information is needed for a quotation?

Please provide the workpiece diameter, brush length, filament material and diameter, backing material, coil pitch, quantity and application. A drawing or existing sample is helpful for replacement brushes.
